Nine perfect strangers show up at a health retreat, each hiding, exploring, growing from, something broken in their lives they hope to heal. Then….PLOT TWIST!
Lianne Moriarty does it again with this perfectly twisted novel, Nine Perfect Strangers. When I read the preview, my first thought was, “Well, this sounds interesting…people who make friends at a health spa. I’ve always wanted to go to a health spa.” Little did I know how twisted this story would become.
Moriarty takes her sweet time building out each character, chapter by chapter. Reading the novel is much like peeling an onion. Each character arrives on scene, as needed, to build the foundation of the storyline. Over time, we dig deeper into what makes each person tick, and see them evolve to some level of comfort with themselves and with each other. Then, we’re off on a journey of the twisted as the health spa becomes something entirely otherwise.
My apologies to those of you reading this post. If you’re feeling left without a good explanation, or reason to read, this is one of those books where I can’t say too much without totally giving away the storyline. Trust me…you NEED to read this book. While on the surface it seems like a “light beach read”, the longer you read the deeper you’re going to get sucked into the plot. I guarantee you’ll reach a point in the book where you’ll need to make a choice….Should I stop to eat…or keep reading? Should I get some sleep…or keep reading? Should I go to work…or keep reading?
I could not put this book down! And, in the end I was left second guessing whether going to a health spa was such a great idea!
