Challenge your creative mind with my 30 Days of 6-Word Stories Challenge. One prompt a day; six simple words; tell the story.
I was introduced to 6-word stories a number of years ago as a brain game activity for strengthening cognitive performance. I was the director of a senior living community, and we put heavy focus on cognitive activity to help residents “maintain their brain” as long as possible. My life enrichment team was amazing, devising all sorts of research-based challenges. My residents flocked to these events.
The 6-Word Story
I often participated in the brain games as a way to keep myself “clicking”, and I’ll tell you, the 6-word story stopped me in my tracks! You see, I’m not one for short stories. My family used to tease me as a child because my stories were so long. I love building the picture…adjectives and adverbs are my friends! But with 6-word stories, you ONLY get 6 words to tell the story!
The Challenge
So, here’s how this challenge works. Grab a notebook or a clean sheet of paper and a pen or pencil. Then, download my free 30 Days of 6-Word Stories prompt sheet. Each day you’re given a single word prompt. Create a complete story, including that single word prompt, by using a total of 6 words. Here’s an example for Prompt #24…
Prompt: Wig
Story: Hold onto your wig, wind’s blowing! OR Excuse me Mister, your wig’s crooked.
